Public Art Call - Space Reclaimed

July 25, 2024

The Downtown Lindsay BIA, along with the City of Kawartha Lakes as a Strategic Partner, is seeking an artist(s) to activate through Public Art, the wall adjacent to the Kent Street Parkette (125 Kent Street West). The parkette is a highly visible vacant space in the Heritage Conservation District of Downtown Lindsay.  The space has sat empty waiting for activation since a fire razed the original building in 1991. In 1997, a temporary mural transforming the downtown into ‘small town Kansas’ was painted on the adjacent wall (121 Kent Street West) as a film prop for the 1998 Hollywood movie ‘A Cool, Dry Place’. The Call is for a mixed media 2nd floor installation with light attributes to reclaim this highly visible wall, while respecting and celebrating the historic market town of Lindsay. A treatment for the ground floor wall area should factor into the total space design.
